3rd Grade

Welcome to 3rd grade! The 3rd grade is a transition year into the upper grades. This year your child will have a learning experience that is exciting, engaging and challenging as they continue to build the tools and skills needed for their academic future.

Morning Drop-Off

Your child should go directly to the playground after hanging his/her backpack on the hooks outside the classroom. After the bell rings (at 8:35 am), your child will line up according to their classroom number. Their teacher will then meet their class on the blacktop and walk them back to the classroom.

Dismissal

At the end of our school day your child will be dismissed directly from their classroom. Those children who are Kids Country attendees, will walk to either location alone or with another friend (if that is what you have arranged). Bus riders are walked to the front of school. If you are picking your child up from the classroom, you may wait for them in the courtyard outside their classroom or have them meet you out at the back parking lot. If you are late picking up your child, they will be waiting for you in the school office.

Recess

There are two recesses each day: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Please send a healthy snack with your child every day, even if they are buying lunch. However please try to make sure it is something nutritious that can be consumed quickly!

Lunch Time

3rd graders have lunch in the cafeteria everyday at 11:45 am. They can bring their lunch from home or purchase a hot lunch at school. Information about Green Valley’s hot lunch program can be found on the right of this page. If you send lunch money, please put it in a Ziploc bag or envelope with your child's name on it.

Homework

Your child will complete and bring home a daily Homework Planner listing the homework assignment for that day. The homework will consist of language arts activities, math worksheets, spelling, and at times will include other assignments pertinent to themes being studied in class.

In addition to this, your child should read at least 20 minutes each night and fill in his/her Reading Log.

Please look over your child's Planner and homework every night. Take time to make corrections with them at home. Immediate feedback provides a teachable moment and will help them to learn from their mistakes.

Please make sure your child returns their Reading Log, Daily Planner, and Homework Folder (with completed homework) daily.
