    Picture Day

    GV Teacher/Staffer Spotlight

Meet the great people that help make our school the wonderful place it is -- even from a distance!

    Library Media Coordinator, Brenda Dvorak!

Brenda DvorakMrs. Dvorak has been with the SRVUSD since 2001 and started at GVE in August of 2008, coming from John Baldwin Elementary in the same role.  She loves her role, especially helping GV students discover the love of books!  She embraces the challenge to fill our library with new books that are fun, exciting and interesting, keeping them coming back for more.  One of her favorite traditions about her job at GVE is offering the teacher treat of Librarian for the Day at the annual Learning Fund Auction. The winner of this treat gets to spend a whole day with Mrs. Dvorak, seeing all the fun things she does in the library, from reading to classes that come to the library to working with new books that need to be processed into our library collection, to shelving the books that are returned by our students.

The GVE library just finished a modernization overhaul in April of 2019 and the new space is a joy in which to bring the children more love of books.  Mrs. Dvorak spent countless hours sorting and updating the library collection to make the most of the renovation -- that was a lot of books to move, twice!

The pandemic has given Mrs. Dvorak the extended time to spend with her family and the chance to strengthen the bonds via phone calls and FaceTime with family "back home" in Ohio, where she lived before the Bay Area.  She looks forward to when she can travel back there again and to getting back to socializing with local friends more freely.  In the meantime, she gets lots of cuddle time with her adorable little granddaughter, who is nearly 3!

Switching to remote learning has given Mrs. Dvorak the chance to step out of her comfort zone to learn new things and gives her a great sense of accomplishment to master a new skill!  It has been stressful to switch, but there are many good things coming from the situation.  She has been working hard to get library checkouts going again, ready for the children to dive back into the collection, and also preparing for the first ever Online Scholastic Book Fair to come, October 1 through 14.  Stay tuned for details, including contests for the children!

Mrs. Dvorak wants to tell you: "I miss you!  I miss seeing your smiling faces!  I miss helping you find books in our library and I miss reading to you!  To the community-I miss you too!  You couldn't be at a better school with great teachers and staff who care about the whole child and who care about you too!  Stay safe and healthy during this pandemic.  Enjoy your time with your family-appreciate all those little moments.  Take time out to do something you can all enjoy.  Read a favorite story together as a family.  It helps build reading skills and it sets a good example for your kids.  It is also an incredibly special time when you are reading together!  Your kids will remember that when they are adults!"

NEW!  Curbside Pickup for GV Library Books! Mrs. Dvorak is rolling out a new process to allow our students to still get their hands on those library books we all love so much.  Use the GV library catalog to browse for your favorites or discover great new reads, and place the book on hold.  Or, ask Mrs. Dvorak to pick some out for you!  Books will be pulled for you and ready for pick up at the next school materials pick up date.  Refer to the 9/8 email sent out by Mrs. Grim for all the details (or go to the school website) and Get Caught Reading!
